I probably won’t be posting much in the next month so as to revise my approach to photography. My camera may be dying, needs repairs, and the repairs may not be worth it. However, I still have my film cameras. I realize they are antiquated, but they’ve always been more tangible than my digital camera. I’ll be posting images of older works from the past few years. Here are some stills of plywood from this year.

Well, the school year began and my time dwindled. Not to mention, drawing and painting appeal to me more right now. However, I do have this. Abstraction is, inherently, interesting to me. Large abstractions especially attract me because of their physicality. The body must be fully involved in the making and, perhaps overwhelmed in the viewing.

One of my current projects looks at exterior urban spaces both intimate and open. I’ve never really been interested in pretty, but I have always been interested in texture, shape, movement, and, subsequently, space. Cities hold a wealth of these places; it’s merely taking advantage of and finding those places I connect with. I can’t put my finger on how I become connected, but it certainly has something to do with the potential of the space.

And, I’m playing with the white balance to see what innate color and contrast qualities I can imbue the image with. It’s always nice to begin with a perfectly exposed, color balanced picture, but sometimes it’s fun to push those limits.
